The mother of a recent historically black university grad charged with reckless driving in Dublin, Va. says her daughter was “stopped three times in 30 minutes” by the same Dublin Police Officer driving home to Los Angeles from Hampton and is in desperate need of help.

Kai Niambi Kitchen, who just graduated from Hampton University with honors, is currently being held without bond on a class 1 misdemeanor charge for “reckless driving 20 mph or more over the speed limit—limit is 30 mph or less,” according to Inmate Lookup.

Rae Jones, Kitchen’s mom, says her daughter was only allowed to call her after being held in jail for 15 hours. “You can only imagine my horror after having attempted to locate her all day,” Jones said.

“You can only imagine her horror after doing everything she was expected to do and graduating “with honors.” The soonest I can get there is Tuesday morning due to holiday traffic,” she said.

Jones added, “What I need you to do is flood the Dublin County Courthouse at 540-643-2000… We need an attorney right now! We need help right now!”

HBCU Buzz tried to contact Ms. Jones for comment but did not get a response up to now.

  1. So was she actually driving recklessly? Does that even matter to #BLMers and other race warriors?

    • So you mean the same cop pulling you over 3 times within 30 minutes in hick town Virginia sounds normal? 30mph limit? You heard “BLM” before it was even brought up! Glad your race radar went off because that’s exactly what this is.

      • On more credible sites they listed she was ticketed going 93 mph, 97 mph, and 94 mph all in a 70 mph speed limit. Defending such actions is irrational as she is a danger to herself on other on the road. Tire blowout, slower traffic, Kai being young (21 yr old) less experienced driver, or debris which in the event of disaster would kill herself and another possibly. At the speed she was going it was actually cheaper (disregarding speeding tickets) to simply fly one way and sell her car locally in Hampton, VA. Factor in food, possible hotel, gas, or possible emergency repairs which would cost from $50 – $500 more than flying.

This article of selective reporting is intellectually dishonest and should be ashamed of purposely inciting racism allegations where no evidence is provided.

      • It was TWO different police officers in the time of an hour. They gave her not ONE, not TWO but THREE reckless driving tickets (93 mph, 94 mph and 97mph). Graduate or not…black, white, green or blue…any would go to jail after that. My nephew went to jail when he was stopped the FIRST time for such a thing. Why they didn’t give her a phone call for 15 hours IS the only issue that I see as being a problem here BUT it was a holiday weekend and perhaps the jail was unusually busy.

      • The magistrate probably wasn’t in. When I did an overnight, it was for that same reason – I had to wait for a magistrate to come in and set bail. Most likely the magistrate was off for the Federal Holiday, and the young lady had to wait until the holiday was over.

      • If she continued breaking the rules of the law she should have been pulled over again. Being black does not exempt you from traffic laws!

    • No, that does not matter, because even if she was driving recklessly, that’s no excuse for the police to hold her without bail and without allowing a phone call for 15 hours.

      • Phone calls are not guaranteed . It is a courtesy gesture. If you give the police a bad time, it takes a little bit longer to extend that courtesy. No, the constitution does not guarantee a telephone call. Think about it.

      • The facts? Like the three tickets in an hour and a half for going nearly 30mph above the speed limit at 94, 97, and 93mph? She could easily have killed someone through accident or ignorance.

Anyone doing that should be in jail. Besides, it’s a misdemeanor, and if it’s a first offense.. oh wait, first THREE offenses, she’ll probably get a fine and time served. Maybe some community service to teach her a lesson about responsibility, but that’s it.

      • I can read. She was arrested for reckless driving. Do facts not matter to you Black Lives Matter trolls?

    • Knew it was only a matter of time before the Internet Klan showed up. One day, one of you cowards are going to get your internet persona confused with the real world and be damned when you realize you can’t log off in real life.

      • I am merely providing much needed reality check. You are the racist one. Oh and if you attack somebody in real life you are going to prison.

    • Knew it was only a matter of time before the Internet Klan showed up. One day, one of you cowards are going to get your internet persona confused with the real world and be damned when you realize you can’t log off in real life.

    • This mother is clearly trying to spread awareness for her child in order tonsafely bring her home . You dont know what happened nor do you have the facts to the story yet you come on this page just to play decils advocate? You are a part of the problem and not the solution. Take your negativity elsewhere!

Take your negativity elsewhere!

      • You keep going on about negativity man. Knowing absolutely nothing about what actually happened. It’s important to absolutely shut out bias, and you are VERY VERY VERY biased. Just because she’s black no less. If she really was driving this way and was actually pulled over three times she should be in jail…15 hours without a call? I don’t agree with that. Has she been mistreated? I hope not but it doesn’t seem like she has been from what I’ve been reading. What if she hurt someone? Would you still be on here saying what you are saying? These people aren’t a part of the problem. You aren’t either and I doubt that you can even tell me what “the problem” even is.

      • It’s a one sided story painting police as the bad guy and her reckless driving daughter as some sort of innocence wronged.

    • In Virginia, 20 mph or more over the posted speed limit is an automatic Reckless driving charge regardless of what road, how she was driving or the conditions she was driving under.

  2. So was she actually driving recklessly? Does that even matter to #BLMers and other race warriors?

  3. We are praying for her here in Atlanta. And someone from Ebony is trying to reach her mom.

  4. My prayers are with this family that all will work out. I live in SWVA and just saw the posting. I don’t understand why they would hold her without bond on a reckless driving charge. Usually its a ticket with a trial date. That is so wrong. Our local media channels are WSLS 10 WDBJ 7 and The Roanoke Times. There is power in media and if need be, contact them. You all have nothing to lose in doing so

    • Three tickets in 30 minutes demonstrated=s that she is a habitual offender and since she was on her way out of state, there is a flight risk with no intentions of showing up in court for the THREE tickets she received.

    • She was given 2 tickets for reckless driving at the same spot in the same hour before getting arrested without bond. How can you not understand why she would be arrested after the first 2 times, yet she kept doing it for the 3rd time in the same hour?

    • This young lady put others at-risk for being killed. Not once, but three times!!! I don’t agree with no phone call-but why disobey the law and feel she’s not wrong? Like I said before, some people think the LAW doesn’t apply to them. I guess they didn’t give her a bond because she would be considered a ” habitual offender.” Not good. Now, with this notoriety, I hope she’ll be able to get a job.

    • She was released this morning. Her story will be told. Thank you for your concern.

  5. I read in another article that she was allegedly driving 94-97 miles per hour in each case ( the speed limit is 70 mph). So, if I am correct, she ignored the warnings and continued to break the law and put others at risk? I’m sorry, I can’t agree with supporting someone who intentionally breaks the law and can cause potential harm to others.

    • I love that you use the word “allegedly” because at the end of the day you dont know what happened. Black people are harrassed by law enforcement on a daily basis and their are several historical cases where cops have fabricated evidence so take your negative comments elsewhere. If you cant support then why come onto the page just to say that? Keep your negativity to yourself. I dont know this young lady but I know that black people must stick together. Not sure what your ethnicity is but if yo are black you must be white on the inside the negative way your talking.

      • Oh please, stop! I’m blacker than you- if you’re under 45 plus years old. My parents were Morgan State College students who went to jail for sit-ins during the civil rights movement. I marched against the verdict of Rodney King in the 90’s and was always taught to “give back to the community.” I am speaking as a 48 year old child of civil rights protesters and a protester myself. But, if you’re breaking the law and being disrespectful of the damage you ( general) can cause-then you have NO support/sympathy from me. Look, just because one is black doesn’t mean they should get automatic support/sympathy. What “we” should be asking, and if it’s true, why was the child driving above the speed limit AFTER several warnings? Some people have NO respect for the law and the consequence of breaking them.

      • None of this book your wrote means nothing when the truth of the matter is you cane on here to be negative. This women is trying to get her child safely home while things in society like Sterling are currently going on. You come on here to say you dont support yet your “blacker than me” I know who I am and I dont need to have a Im blacker contest to prove it. I pray this child makes it home safe because with people like you who needs crooked cops.

      • I hope she makes it home safe too. I also hope she is appropriately punished for her repeated and flagrant violations of the law that placed the people around her at risk of serious injury or death.

      • That is not how our legal system is set up – crime is punished where it is committed.

      • Easy for you to say. Judging by your profil pic you have bever went to an Hbcu nor have you dealt with racism? Were ancestors ever lynched. Do you know any alton sterling victims? Its so easy from your perspective to talk about the justice system because its done a great job protecting you and your people. I didnt come here to debate this poor mother only once her child safely home and to not end up like sandra bland and you and a bunch of haters really came on here to argue????? Just pitiful but I am seeing again how much hate people hve in their hearts.

      • As you have guessed by my profile picture, I haven’t been to an HBCU – my education was earned by service in the military. My forefathers weren’t lynched – but many have been wounded or died in defense of this nation so no I don’t have quite the same perspective as you appear to. My perspective is ask “what can I give to my community” instead of “what do they owe me”. They taught me to take responsibility for my actions and man up to the consequences. With equal rights comes equal responsibility.

What this young lady did could have easily killed others, and she didn’t even care enough to stop doing 90+ mph after being stopped for it the first two times. If you had read my previous post, you would know that I am a former EMT and have had to treat the victims of such crashes and/or clean up the mess when they did not survive.
As to Sandra Bland, Kai is not Sandra, and as unjust as Bland’s arrest was, her death was in the end by HER OWN HANDS. All she had to do was sit out a weekend in county jail as millions before her (myself included) have done and she couldn’t even do that without hanging herself.
MLK is rolling in his grave at folks like you.

      • At the end of the day. My point is made . You dont know what its like to be black in america. Donyou here how racially insensitive you sound? Your belief is black people feel someone “owes” us something. Well after all my people have been through your dam right its called RESPECT. Its easy to sit on your keyboard and define a race you know nothing about. Ps I am a nurse and I have served for my country as well so cry me a river we are taking about one thing and one thing only. When your ancestors are kidnapped and transported across the world and entrapped in over 300 years of slavery and lynching and segregation and when you know what it feels like to be stopped by the cops and fear for your life because of the color of your skin then you earn the right to come on the blog and talk shit. Im glad this girl is now home safe and thats what this blog is about at the end of the day. Yet you and a bunch of other privileged pricks turned it into the great debate. I dont have time to argue with someone like you I could talk until I am blue in the fave you will never understand and that Is why america Is still divided. Have a great life Im at work now I have lives to saves Im mot wasting another second talking to a racist prick.

      • You really think a black woman, who experiences the pressures of society couldn’t cope with a weekend in jail ? Stop drinking the kool-aid. Strong doubts she committed suicide. But it’s convenient to side with and believe the police.

You said you were former military. Yous probably deny the abuses at GITMO too had they not been on film

        Grow up
The world isn’t full of honest people in a authority like you are suggesting

      • Radar Ray – In the case of Sandra Bland, the forensic evidence compiled by the Harris County Coroner showed that she died of asphyxiation and that her injuries were consistent with suicide by hanging – that said, I strongly believe that the concussion she received during her unjust arrest strongly contributed to her committing suicide. Her cellmate testified that she was very depressed during her incarceration. It wouldn’t be the first time that a concussion has caused someone to commit suicide. Don’t assume that I think her arrest was OK because I don’t – her arrest showed all too clearly the problems with the way that law enforcement is done in this country and even though her arresting officer was fired it still does not go far enough in punishing him for his actions.
As for GTMO, I was stationed there in 1995 and 1996 during Operation Sea Signal when we took in approximately 40,000 Haitian refugees and another 60,000 Cuban refugees and worked our butts off trying to get as many of them as possible to the USA. While I am not pleased with what has happened there after 9/11, I also keep in mind that what was done there was done to people like Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (the mastermind and planner of 9/11) and persons equally brutally determined to commit acts of mass terrorism. That is often lost in the criticism of GTMO.

      • You say that because your parents, and you, don’t protest. You give ” lip service” while others do the hard work for justice.

      • The only ones not breaking the law and being held accountable to the laws of this country are people of color. Whites cover for each other and dont get caught! Havent you not figured out that the system was designed to keep our black asses in line? To keep us uneducated so that racists like Trump can continue to live at a politicsl and economic advantage? Wake the fuck up!

      • I get that-but the fact remains she was given three warnings because she could have killed someone and she still broke the law. What if it was one of your family members that was injured or killed by her reckless driving? Would you want to hear what you’re saying?

      • The only ones not breaking the law and being held accountable to the laws of this country are people of color. Whites cover for each other and dont get caught! Havent you not figured out that the system was designed to keep our black asses in line? To keep us uneducated so that racists like Trump can continue to live at a politicsl and economic advantage? Wake the fuck up!

      • We all speed. The question is how often are you caught…. and why was there no distance between the officers and woman over all that time?

      • The young lady was caught speeding three time going 94-97 mph. It doesn’t matter about the distance-she was being reckless and
disobeying the law. There’s consequences to that.

      • Still confused. Were they tethered together ? How do you stick with anyone for 1 hour over 95 miles unless you are pursuing that person

      • Maybe she was a repent offender and they ( the police) knew her? Look, she’s cute and if you’re cute you usually get a break- I know I did with cops. But, she still thought she was above the law. Thus, being jailed.

      • Were all the same on the inside, do you not see how ignorant you look saying you must be white on the inside…are you serious, comments like that are what’s wrong with this country. Go fuck yourself ignorant prick

      • With all due respect, you dont have to explain not a damn thing to them about what blacks go through and what we endure. Shat we as blacks have to come to terms with is that fact that the people whom we are trying to explain to, dont give a fuck sbout what we go through or how police treat us! Thats how they are! So fuck them! No more explaining! We should start dmacking the shit out of them! No more talking, no more asking, no more explaining, no more reasoning!

    • I love that you use the word “allegedly” because at the end of the day you dont know what happened. Black people are harrassed by law enforcement on a daily basis and their are several historical cases where cops have fabricated evidence so take your negative comments elsewhere. • Thank you! Someone with some common sense here, you break the law (especially three times), you deal with the consequences.

    • Thank you! Someone with some common sense here, you break the law (especially three times), you deal with the consequences.

    • Dont give me that shit! The KKK has broken the law for centuries! Local law enforcement deliberately break the laws that they enforce! Yet people like YOU will continue to put your head up their asses! And lets not forget about Dick Chaney! The political figure who shot someone in the face accidentally, and didnt even have a gun permit! Snd his ass was drinking beer!!! No consequences! And you didnt say shit! Do you can go straight to hell with that bullshit about how you dont support people who deliberately break the law! You a motha fuckin lie!!

      • You don’t get it, do you? This young lady put others at-risk for being killed. Not once, but three times!!! I don’t agree with no phone call-but why disobey the law and feel she’s not wrong? Like I said before, some people think the LAW doesn’t apply to them.

    • I LIVE in SWVA where this incident occurred, about an hour away from me, and being familiar with I-81, its simply a ticket. The state police ALWAYS have cars pulled over for speeding more than 20 miles over the speed limit, which is what constitutes reckless driving here. Dublin is known in this area to be redneck territory. Where they messed up with her is denying her a bond AND holding her for 15 hours before she was allowed her one free call. Had it been the state police and not the Dublin police she would have been ticketed and on her way. Virginia is all about making money from speeding tickets. A few years ago, VA was in the national spotlight for fining speeders $3000 for speeding- a law that was quickly revoked when the AP, Reuters, Washington Post, New York Times and other major media services blasted this state for the excessive fine.

I suggest that you remember that we are all innocent until proven guilty. And, with no previous criminal record, there was no justification for the ugly way that the Dublin Police force handled the entire situation. They went WAY OVERBOARD, and in doing so violated her right to due process and her civil rights. I hope her mother file a formal complaint with the State Attorney General’s office. I suggest, in the future, before you toot your horn, that you do your homework with more research. Dublin is a rinky dink, hillbilly little town, with an incredibly low minority population. A bunch of REDNECK racists in that area that proudly drive around with the confederate flag on cars.

    • I still haven’t seen why she was still subject to the same officer an hour later at those speeds and covering that distance unless he was pursuing her

      • She was driving on 81 South when she was stopped the 1st time and after she was let go with a summons, she inexplicably exited 81S, turned around and got on 81 North then later got back onto 81 South (still speeding in excess of 90mph) and passed by the same cop in almost exactly the same place as she had been stopped the 1st time. The cop hadn’t moved much, Kai had just driven in a circle. The 3rd time she was pulled over was by a different cop a few miles down 81 South from where she had been pulled over the 1st and 2nd time. All 3 times she was pulled over she had been driving in excess of 90mph (speed limit on that road is 70mph).

  7. Doing over 90 mph, three seperate times in a 30 minute window after being ticketed is NOT what a HU graduate is expected to do… As a graduate of HU myself… I hate to play Devil’s advocate… but in Virginia an officer can technically arrest you for speeding at 20 mph over on the FIRST OFFENSE… She got her first ticket doing 93 mph… she was let go with a ticket, she drove off… totally ignored the ticket and proceeded to do 97 mph…. once again, not arrested but given a ticket and let go… THENNNN after two dern tickets in that short amount of time she proceeded to do 94 after being warned and ticketed TWICE… now I don’t agree with the no bail issue but dang if I was the officer I probably woulda locked her up to, continuing at such a high rate of speed totally oblivious to the other drivers on the road… Now I can get down with supporting those that did no wrong.. but she knowingly and wantonly disregarded the law and the legal and proper instructions of the troopers on three occasions within 30 minutes….

  8. Applaud the police officer and criminal courts for doing their jobs. Crime has always been voluntary. Let the court system deal with the black snowflake of American entitlement she is not being held in some 3rd world country holding cell.

  9. Applaud the police officer and criminal courts for doing their jobs. Crime has always been voluntary. Let the court system deal with the black snowflake of American entitlement she is not being held in some 3rd world country holding cell.

    • Paid troll. This is what your tax dollars pay for black people. You may want to re think giving the world’s pre-eminent REAL criminals your hard-earned money.

      • When you build your own personal nation and economy then you can police said nation anyway you want. Applaud the police officers for doing their job. Crime is voluntary.

      • When you build your own personal nation and economy then you can police said nation anyway you want. Applaud the police officers for doing their job. Crime is voluntary.

  10. Wow!! You’re a real piece of work! First, you insult those who don’t agree with you then you resort to using profanity? I bet you disrespect the law and expect to others to support you and your behavior.

  11. Doesn’t matter what race you are, if you are caught going almost 100 mph 3 times in the same section of interstate, you should go to jail. Especially on a busy holiday weekend and Virginia doesn’t play around with speeding. And she was let go with a summons TWICE. Stop defending carelessness.

    • Problem is that if you are white, you wont go to jail. Rather, they will take you to burger king jyst as they did with Dylan Roof!

      • They gave her warnings and she still ignored them. Twice the white cops ( if their all white) gave her a warning and she still ignored them-that should tell you it may not be a “race” thing.

      • Funny how white suspected serial murderers can make it to jail, court and then to prison with no problem and not a cut or bruise but black people who are supposed to be INNOCENT until PROVEN GUILTY are being killed and/or held without BOND for what is a misdemeanor, at most? Did they give her a breathalyzer to see if she was under the influence? And any traffic stop or any detainment by cops is at their discretion. They let people go with a warning everyday if they CHOOSE to. Racist ass psychological cripples using that badge as a cover. Black people need to understand that there is a continuous thread from slave patrollers tracking and chasing run away slaves to the kkk in blue today.

      • Ms Debra Mitchell Wright, please do give us all an update after your niece’s court appearance tomorrow! It’s hard for me to comprehend that she would deliberately drive over the speed limits, not once, but 3 times, unless she was trying to get away from what she believed was someone stalking her! There’s been advice given over social media and other airways that tells drivers, especially if they are alone in their vehicles in a remote area, to try to make it to the nearest populated area if they are unsure of who is trying to pull them over, while call the 911 dispatcher to let them know what they were doing and who they believe may be stalking/following them. I do not know the specifics of this case, and so I will not jump to any conclusions! There are 2 sides to every story and I will give your niece the benefit of the doubt until I hear otherwise! Meanwhile, I’ve posted on my fb page a request for my fb friends within driving distance of Dublin, VA, to mobilize and go to her aid to ensure that she is safe and unharmed. We do not wish a repeat of a “Sandra Bland” case! My prayers are with Kai, you, her parents, and all other family members who may be making their way to Dublin to be with her! Let the truth be told, soon!

      • I will post an update tomorrow. Thank you for your caring concern for our family.

  12. This story in not accurate. She was stopped 3 times in an hour and the last time she was stopped was a different officer. Sorry but she was going 94-97 MPH 3 different times. Why should we make a big deal about her being in jail? I’m pretty sure after 2 wreckless driving tickets, the third one would send ANYONE to jail. She’s lucky she didn’t go the first time. Also it doesn’t matter that she was a college graduate, she did NOT follow the law therefore she is where she is. Maybe next time she will OBEY THE LAW!

    • The only people “making a big deal” about it are those who are concerned for her safety and well being. If you’re not one of us who cares then why even join this thread? Make your own thread where you can make all the calloused comments you desire.

    • Exactly. Doesn’t matter if she was a Nobel Laureate or ground-breaking scientist. She broke the law, was given 2 tickets the first time in the same hour, yet she still decided to break the law again! The first 2 times were at the same place, too. How could she not have known to drive better the 2nd time around? If she can graduate with honors, which is irrelevant by the way, she should be smart enough that breaking the law once is already punishable by law, but by her choice and in the endangerment of others, she kept doing what she was doing. This is not a situation where the race card should come to play.

    • Have we heard her story? No! We are only going off oc what the police are saying! Why do we keep trusting and going off the word of the police? As if police havent misled the public enough! Maybe she was in fear of the police taking her life. Police shoot us dead and claim being in fear for THEIR lives. Maybe her daughter was in fear for hers! Maybe they threatened to Sandra Bland her!

      • Thank you, this is Kai’s aunt. There is more to the story and it will be told. Right now all we want is for her to be released in court tomorrow. Just because something is written in the papers, does not make it factual or true. Justice will prevail. We are prayerful. We will get through this.

      • You are correct — we all read the inaccurate account in Ferguson, MO: “Hands up, don’t shoot” nonsense that still is taken as truthful by many ignorant people. The FACT is it never happened but is still used by some as truth. Those people want anything that supports an agenda. And that is sad.

      • Thank you, people are so quick to JUDGE. By the way, she is free and will deal with her consequences.

      • Thank you, people are so quick to JUDGE. By the way, she is free and will deal with her consequences.

      • Amen ! Keep spreading the word! Real black people must stick together. All we want is for this girl tonget home safe and people after seeing what’s going on in society seriously have a problem with that? The hate is beyond real.

    • I’m confused. Same place in an hour going 95mph.. was she going in circles? Was she in a stationary car, zooming and revving but wheels never touching the ground?

In an hour, she should have been out of the county she received ticket in. Was he tracking her, specifically ?

      So many questions

  13. This is Kai’s aunt. Yes, there is way more to the story then what the police reported. They didn’t mention stalking her, and more. I’m not going to go into that. All we ( our family) care about right now is GETTING HER HOME SAFE the rest will be dealt with later. Thank you to those who are supporting us. I’m not going to debate this issue. No one on this page is GOD or the JUDGE.

    • Hope her lawyers press the police stalking angle. It will be a big help, especially with three Virginia State Troopers involved. Looking forward to see how this stalking incident will evolve.

    • Hope her lawyers press the police stalking angle. It will be a big help, especially with three Virginia State Troopers involved. Looking forward to see how this stalking incident will evolve.

    • Ms. Mitchell Wright- I don’t agree with the no phone call. But, I think many of us were responding to others that think because one is black there should be instant sympathy/support even when one is wrong. And, that’s not the case-if you’re wrong, you’re wrong.

      • Thank you. People are so quick to judge from reading an article that does not tell the whole truth. Anyway, all we wanted was for her to come home. She has been released and will deal with her consequences. People need to stop the “MADNESS’ and pray for each other. This has nothing to do with anyone but her. Please people, give it a rest. “Justice has Prevailed” ” GOD IS GOOD!!!!!!!!!!

  14. Yeah, sorry, but she’s getting exactly the justice she deserves. Three times in half an hour she was caught for doing nearly 100mph, almost 30mph over the speed limit? By the same cop? Why would ANYONE expect to NOT go to jail for that?

Don’t care what color you are, don’t care if you’re male or female. You’re putting everyone on the road at risk at those speeds, and I highly doubt she’s some kind of trained race car driver or her car was particularly well equipped for travel at high speeds.

I’m sure she’s a wonderful person who’s very intelligent with a bright future. I’m also sure that actions have consequences, and now she’s facing them. It’s a misdemeanor and she did an overnight in jail. She’ll probably get off with fines and time served.

Teaching our youth that actions have consequences is important, and protecting our fellow citizens on the road is also important. The PD’s actions – that we know of at this time – show no indications of racism, abuse, or anything inappropriate. The young lady broke the law, repeatedly, got caught, repeatedly, and is now facing the prescribed response, as is thoroughly appropriate.

  16. Calling the courthouse and “demanding justice” will not help Ms Kitchen at all. She has not been treated unjustly: if someone repeatedly is charged with breaking the same law three times within 30 minutes and reports to the judge that they are not from the area and have no fixed address, the judge will hold them without bond as a matter of common practice — any person, in any court. If people want to help her, they should pitch in to get her a lawyer and a mental health evaluation ASAP. Why don’t you set up a legal defense fund for her rather than demand that people take a useless action that will serve no purpose?

    • I don’t agree with the “mental health evaluation” part. Maybe she has a “lead foot.”

    • After graduating from college with honors, it is possible she was unable to read the road signs and therefore had no idea which direction she should take. Do try to label me, I know quite a few college graduates who cannot read.

  17. Can someone please point to the part of the US Constitution, The Bill of Rights, Federal or State law that states You have a Right to a phone call once arrested?

  18. Her booking number and permanant id is assigned to a different inmate. One, Rachael Nicole Claypool. Something fishy is going on here.

  19. How hard is it to obey the posted limit? You’d think after the first ticket she’d have been less of a lead foot.

  20. Why don’t you hire an attorney for her since you see no wrong in what she has done other than being harassed by white police officers. Put your money where your mouth is since you support her stupidity. Like everyone else has said she broke the law not once not twice but three times within an hour. She should pay for her wrecklessness.

    • This is an Hbco blog. I highly doubt you went to one nor knows what it feels like. Speaking out againt racism and a case where evidence could possible be tampered with as police have done on many occasions does not mean I should pay for her attorney. I can contribute with no problem but footing the bill when I just purchased my own home is not a smart idea. I clearly stated she should be punished if she committed a crime but as of now we have no concrete evidence other than the words of cops in a racist township. I will say it again I hope she makes it home safe and doesnt end up like SANDRA bland, you know America is a place full of hate when white ppl and oreos come onto a hbcu blog just to talk shit . You know nothing about what it feels like to be stopped by the cops as a black person so sit from the comfort of your home and spread your hate because ppl like you and the rest of these people who dont even have the affidavit will get all your looking for in the end. Also I see how much time you have on your hands to come on a day later read comments just to reply. Dont you have a life? Nvm rhetorical question.

  22. As a former EMT, I have seen more than my share of car accidents (many of them fatal) where speeding was a significant factor so I cannot begin to stress how dangerous her actions were to herself and others on the road at the time, regardless of what personal issues she was going through. More worrisome is the fact that being stopped and ticketed for it the 1st time driving in excess of 20mph over a 70mph speed limit wasn’t a wake-up call to drive in a safer manner – it took her having to be hauled off to jail after the 3rd ticket in an hour before she stopped her reckless actions (and only then because she could no longer drive). She will have her day in court, but as a society we must start holding people responsible for their misdeeds. To give this woman a pass because of her skin color is the worst kind of racism of all – that would be basically saying that because of her skin color she isn’t capable of doing any better. Hopefully her stay in jail and day in court will help her to realize how dangerous her actions that day were.

  23. As to why she was stopped twice by the same officer, this quote from the Richmond Times-Dispatch explains it quite well:
“Kitchen was pulled over by a state trooper in Pulaski County the first time when she was going south on Interstate 81 during a trip home from Hampton to California. Kitchen
then became confused and started driving north on I-81 where she drove by the same officer running radar. He stopped and ticketed her again,
Turk said. Kitchen then began driving west, and she was stopped a third time by a different state trooper, Turk said.”
After the 1st ticket she turned around and was headed down northbound 81, then turned around back onto southbound 81 and was once again speeding where she was caught once again by the same officer in the same area as the 1st stop.

The vehicle Kitchen’s was driving was clocked at over 90 miles an hour each time, Turk said.

  24. Oh please. You insult people who don’t agree with you and cuss at them too, and now you want one to be “be nice”. And no one is stalking you, you started it first and I answered your response.

    • I insult ignorance your absolutely right. And your comment was the first dumb one there I didnt have to look far. Again Since you dont read I ownly want that girl to come home safely If I am an animal for that or law break and all the rother crazy hateful nonsense I have heard then so be it.

      • You insulted people ( mainly me) and now you’re the victim? And,how was my comment dumb? She continued to brake the law after being given two warnings-if you think that’s dumb I feel sorry for you.

  25. Kai is free, thank you to those who prayed for our family And, yes to the others she is dealing with her consequences. Praise God!!!!!!!!!

  26. She has been released and on her way home with her family. Thank you for your concern. Her story will be told!!!

  27. Let’s see…
    1. She was stopped by TWO different cops.
    2. She was driving in excess of 90MPH in a 70MPH zone. FYI, any rate of speed above 80MPH is reckless driving and can/will result in jail time. Especially if you violate it withing an hour time frame. She was jailed for not only her safety, but other drivers on the road.

    3. Dublin is not a county.
    4. The residents of the entire state of VA know the entire I81 corridor is a speed trap.
    5. Profiling? I guess the white cops don’t like white people either. I got two tickets by the same cop in 24 hours. Why? Because I was speeding and breaking the law. However I wasn’t going in excess of 90MPH.

    6. If she was lost, she could have gotten off the interstate and asked for directions. We may be rural, but we don’t bite.
