A great columnist is distinguished by their writing style as well as their bold, but researched stance on the issues. Successful columnists are able build a loyal following by knowing their audience and having an inside ear to what readers want to really talk about.
A columnist should be able to:
- Gather information from already-reported stories and form an analysis based on the findings
- Provide a unique and interesting perspective to trending news topics and public interest stories
- Give opinions to encourage discussion and thought amongst the HBCU Buzz readers and community
The qualities we are looking for in our weekly columnists are favorably those with majors that are English, journalism, communications, or media related, 2.5 cumulative G.P.A, and a team player who is well connected on their campus as well as surrounding community.
