FAMU’s Turkey Drive Provides 300 Thanksgiving Meals For Those in Need

635838999006880146-FAMU-STUDENTSTURKEYBasketsFlorida A&M University’s Gaither Gymnasium, often used for entertainment, convocations and public lectures, will serve as another backdrop Tuesday as volunteers prepare food boxes for families in need.

The Turkey Drive begins at 8:30 a.m. and is co-sponsored by the FAMU Department of Psychology and the Undergraduate Student Success Center. Three hundred Thanksgiving baskets will be delivered to families.

The university is dedicating this event to emergency responders and those who have fallen in the line of duty in the Leon County area.

Raymond Bellamy, academic adviser and instructor at the Undergraduate Student Success Center, has coordinated the drive for the past 10 years.

“Growing up poor, I would go to school and other kids would have food and I wouldn’t,” said Bellamy, son of illiterate migrant workers. “The price of living is to give back as you go through life. We as a community have to commit to helping.” Read Full via Tallahassee
