WATCH: These videos. On April 18, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (AKA) sent a statement to a local Georgia newsroom saying they were “appalled” by the allegations and had already begun an internal investigation. Fort Valley State University’s (FVSU) chapter of AKA, Alpha Beta Chapter, is being investigated after allegations of a ‘sex scandal’.
A week following the investigation, the chapter has already been suspended. the Sorority has issued a statement including language like:
“Withdrawal of Privileges shall disqualify the chapter from participation in the Sorority and all Sorority activities, including the 65th South Atlantic Regional Conference. Members cannot serve as a representative or spokesperson and cannot represent yourself in any manner as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.”
Atlanta-based blog, Rolling Out reports that the “unauthorized activities” may be making reference to allegations that time newly initiated AKA members were involved in a “sex ring” to help cover the costs of sorority fees.
Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, “an organization of nearly 300,000 college-trained members, bound by the bonds of sisterhood and empowered by a commitment to servant-leadership that is both domestic and international in its scope,” issued the following response to the allegations:
FVSU employee Alecia Johnson, member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was placed on administrative leave, other sources report she has resigned. According to Atlanta’s Channel 2, she is a person of interest though she has not been officially charged or arrested. Her lawyer, Adrian Patrick, says
“She’s not a pimp, and she’s not a madam–none of that.”
Three investigations: one from Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc, one from the Georgia Bureau of
Investigation(GBI), and the University Systems of Georgia are all underway.
We hope to see the chapter restored, with young ladies wearing their pink and green, sashaying across the yard strolling again soon.
