Etiquette 101 (for non-members and guests)
- Plots & Crests: Don’t sit, stand, or place items on plots, benches, or shields.
- Calls & Signs: Don’t imitate organizational calls, signs, or handshakes.
- Step Shows: Cheer for every org, give space at the front, and stay off the stage area.
- Probates: Keep aisles clear, let families close to the presentation, and avoid filming anything organizers mark as private.
- Strolling: When members are strolling, make space—don’t cut through the line.
Zero Tolerance: All NPHC organizations and campuses prohibit hazing. If you see something off, report it through university channels.
Myths vs. Facts
- Myth: “Greek life is just parties.”
Fact: The center of NPHC life is service, scholarship, and leadership. - Myth: “You must join as a freshman.”
Fact: Many join later—or through graduate chapters after earning a degree. - Myth: “You need to know someone to get in.”
Fact: Follow the chapter’s official process; attend events, serve, and prepare. - Myth: “All processes are the same.”
Fact: Policies differ by organization and campus; always follow official guidance.
How to Support the Culture (even if you’re not Greek)
- Buy tickets from official chapter links and donate to scholarship funds.
- Volunteer for campus service days and NPHC-sponsored community drives.
- Share credible information—celebrate the public parts, don’t speculate about private ones.
- For media/brands: request access, use correct names, and portray orgs with respect.
