MSU Cheer Bears Earn National Bid
BALTIMORE, Md. – The Morgan State University Cheer Bears are national qualifiers for the inaugural College STUNT National Championship on Saturday, April 9th at the Ocean Center Arena in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Morgan State earned an At-Large Bid for the nationals as a result of finishing as the Mid Atlantic Region Runner Up to North Carolina State
The Cheer Bears, who are the reigning 2011 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Champs, have made tremendous strides during their first STUNT season and have propelled to the top of the national scene under the direction of head coach Theresa Gibson.
“Making it to NCA nationals for STUNT was monumental in highlighting the athleticism of our cheer team athletes,” said Gibson. “We are participating in a history making event and that adds some excitement and anxiety to the mix.”
“With the strong possibility of this becoming an official NCAA sport, this opportunity will assist in opening up additional scholarship opportunities for female athletes and help decrease the gap between the amount of male athletes vs. female athletes at Morgan and other institutions of higher learning.”
MSU will be competing with the following teams at the inaugural College STUNT National Championship:
• Cal Poly State University – West Region Winner
• Framingham State University – Northeast Region Winner & Division II Winner
• Georgia Southern University – Southeast Region Winner
• North Carolina State University – Mid Atlantic Region Winner
• University of Louisville – Mid America Region Winner
University of Florida – Southeast Region Runner Up (Alternate)
