Paine Student Accuses Coach Pete Cardenas of Assault #BuzzKiller

Paine College officials would provide few details today following sexual assault allegations made against the school’s baseball coach by a 22-year-old female student.

Brandon Brown, vice president of institutional advancement, confirmed both the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and Paine College Campus Security are investigating the matter involving coach Pete Cardenas. The coach has been suspended and school officials would not say if he was being paid while off duty.  According to a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office report, the Paine student notified authorities after the April 5 incident.

In her complaint, she said Cardenas began talking to her in a hallway of the school at 1235 15th St., around 3:30 p.m., then he kissed her and forced his tongue in her mouth. Cardenas then asked the 22-year-old to go out to eat with him later, police said. After the coach left, the victim notified authorities. According to the sheriff’s office report, Cardenas told authorities he kissed the girl because he “wanted to console her.”
