On early Tuesday morning on the campus of Jackson State University in the Campbell Suites, a 23-year-old student was found dead in his dorm after a horrific stench had plagued his suite mates and dormitory floor for days. His suite mate had been gone out of town for the weekend, but once the smell registered with him he tried to contact his roommate where he received no response.
He then reached out to the Residence Hall Director who then discovered the body.
The body was later to be identified as Benjamin Sabine, a junior Civil Engineering major at the university. After a report from Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart, Sabine was dead for approximately four days.
The death appeared to be drug-related, but no exact cause will be released until after an autopsy has been conducted.

Jackson State President Carolyn W. Meyers released a statement saying, “Our hearts go out to the family, and we mourn this tragic and untimely death. Our students are always our first concern, and we have made counselors available to help them cope with this unfortunate loss.”
Sophomore and Student Government Senator Kaylor Bell expressed her emotions by saying, “As a student leader at Jackson State University, the loss of my colleague Benjamin Sabine, is more than a sad story. It is an awakening. We often underestimate the power of communication and genuine concern. With thousands of students concentrated in one area, relationships can easily become superficial, but this tragedy is a frightening reminder that it is important to maintain personal connections with each individual that you come in contact with.”

Investigations are still underway.
