Business Management major and Rising Senior, Javier High has not missed a beat with his HBCU-based business, Historically Fresh.

CEO and Founder of Historically Fresh, Javier created the vision with the idea of shedding a more positive and creative light on HBCUs with the end goal of ending these negative stereotypes that are portrayed of HBCUs. They believe if you inform and sway the young generation of the impact of HBCUs, they can appreciate more how important of a role they play in the development of our community.

Historically Fresh came to fruition after Javier and his close friend Bari came up with the unique design that depicted his HBCU — Jackson State University as a sweet chocolate bar.

“I also wanted to create a universal symbol that all people that attended HBCUs could relate to. We name that design, Take a bite outta Knowledge.” That Fall semester, Javier did a trial run of his design; putting them on T-shirts and passing them out to a few students. From there his business began to rush throughout the whole campus with demand become so high, he become an official LLC in February 2017.

Since the creation of Historically Fresh, Javier feels as though his mission of delivering the message of the importance of HBCUs through dope clothing has been met.

“The brand has grown tremendously since the formation of my team: Karmeen, Jasmine, Joe, and Tony. We’ve sold to a great majority of the campus and even was featured on the local Jackson News. Our popularity is starting to spread to different HBCUs at a rapid pace and it’s been great.”

Majority of Historically Fresh success has come from their personal connection with the students. The students can see the effort, passion, and work ethic Javier and his team puts in to make their business successful and because of that students support in big numbers.

Within the next five years, the goal is to have Historically Fresh being in every bookstore on a HBCU campus and being worn on every HBCU college tour for High School students.

“I want to cement ourselves as THEE official brand for HBCUs and hopefully open up a flagship store at Jackson State’s campus.” Javier envisioned.

Historically Fresh will soon be touring various HBCU campuses during the Homecoming season serving as vendors and conducting pop-up show. While also looking to incorporate toddler and grade school gear in the near future.
