The game is being held at Robert F. Kennedy Stadium, the same stadium where the Redskins use to host their home football games and where D.C. United is currently hosting their games. The Stadium is hosting all kinds of events during the week of the game. Such events include presentations, HBCU College showcases, Rallies, Howard vs. Morehouse Debate, a fan festival and the game.
Many Howard students are excited about the game. Though Howard’s football program has seen its better years, students are always hype about the games. Eilah Brown a junior public relation major attending Howard University can’t wait for the game this weekend.
“I’m excited about the game. A lot of my friends are from Atlanta. I think this game is going to be a good preview to the upcoming season.” Said Brown.
Other students are excited about the fashion of the game. Howard University is well-known by other students as a University that has high fashion. Many students take pride in dressing up. Certain events such as Homecoming bring out the best. Melanie Fontaine a junior International Business major attending Howard University believes this game is another way for Howard students to show out.
“This game is another opportunity for Howard University students to separate themselves from other universities in the way we dress, act, and carry ourselves on a regular basis.” said Fontaine.
The game is expecting a huge turnout from Howard students to Morehouse students and even alumni from both HBCU’s. Howard and Morehouse signed to be part of the National Classic for the next three years. Andrea Armstead a junior Marketing Major attending Howard University who helped set up the events for the game believes that the turnout will be huge.
“We’re expecting a great turn out. There has been a lot of positive responses about the game especially from Howard and Morehouse alum who attended their last football game in 1997.” Armstead stated.
Though both HBCU’s are not really well known for their athletics, the rivalry between these two HBCU’s runs deep. As college football season kicked off this weekend, you can expect that both teams are eager to start off the season right by getting this win. Even though both teams are in different conferences, winning bragging rights until the next game may be the best prize to gain.
