Former Hampton University track & field standout Francena McCorory came away with a gold medal at the 2011 IAAF World Track & Field Championships on Saturday, as she helped the USA 4×400-meter relay team win the title.
McCorory anchored the relay team, which also consisted of Sanya Richards-Ross, Allyson Felix and Jessica Beard and ran a 3:18.09. The Americans beat second-place Jamaica by .62 seconds.
A three-time NCAA champion and four-time All-American in the 400-meter dash, McCorory also finished fourth in the 400-meter dash earlier in the World Championships after running a 50.45 in the final on Saturday, Aug. 27.
McCorory also ran a personal-best 50.24 in the semifinals of that event
