In order to qualify for the ranking, the HBCU must currently be listed as part of the White House and U.S. Department of Education’s Initiative on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence, and Economic Opportunity through Historically Black Colleges and Universities, be an undergraduate baccalaureate-granting institution that enrolls primarily first-year, first-time students and must be a school that is part of the U.S. News 2022-2023 Best Colleges rankings.
