A shooting that occurred on Tuesday afternoon at Alabama A&M University has reportedly left two people injured.
The shooting is believed to be an isolated incident stemming from an argument between two people. The Huntsville Police Department reports that the two people shot at each other and that there was never an active shooter threat on A&M’s campus.
According to Huntsville NBC affiliate WAFF, one of the people involved drove to Huntsville Hospital with minor injuries. Police took the second person involved into custody on A&M’s campus. A police spokeswoman told WAFF that the second person also had minor injuries.
The campus was put on lockdown following the incident but is now in an all-clear status as authorities investigate, according to AL.com.
WAFF reports that investigators are obtaining assault-non-family-gun warrants for the two people involved.
This morning, one of the people involved was identified by Huntsville Police. Willie Brandon Nance, 23, was booked in the Madison County Jail on an aggravated assault charge.
Some students at the school reportedly said the incident started because of an argument about cafeteria food.
President of Alabama A&M, Dr. Daniel Wims released a statement on Wednesday morning following the events of the shooting.
“The safety and well-being of our students and campus community will always be our top priority,” Wims said. “We deeply regret the distress caused by the unfortunate incident on our campus yesterday and want to assure you that we are taking every measure to maintain the ongoing safety and security of our campus.”
