Huston-Tillotson University is excited to announce the appointment of Reverend Marcus Jones as its new university chaplain. An esteemed alumnus and dedicated minister, Rev. Jones brings a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to community engagement, spiritual development, and student mentorship to his new role.
A native of Dallas, Texas, Rev. Jones graduated from HTU with a Bachelor of Arts in business management and a minor in marketing. His transformative journey in ministry began as an HTU student when he answered his call and was ordained as an elder in 2011. This strong connection to HTU was solidified further when he completed his chaplain internship at the university.
After earning his Master of Divinity in Black Church Studies from Southern Methodist University’s Perkins School of Theology, Rev. Jones held various leadership roles across several academic institutions. Notably, he served as the executive director of the Wesley Foundation at Midwestern State University. He also led the MOSAIC Cross-Cultural Center. Most recently, he was the executive director of UTA Wesley at the University of Texas at Arlington.
In addition to his pastoral work, Rev. Jones has established himself as an accomplished author. His book, Christ the Yard: A Guide to Christian Living and Ministry on the College Campus, offers insights into the unique challenges that today’s students face while exploring the intersections of faith, culture, and the arts.
As university chaplain, Rev. Jones will be instrumental in nurturing a sense of belonging and spiritual well-being among the HTU community. His rich history with the university and deep appreciation for its mission will undoubtedly inspire faculty, staff, and students alike.
