Tuskegee lands NSF funding for AI-assisted healthcare

Tuskegee University received a $699,999 grant from the National Science Foundation to improve the safety, transparency, and reliability of AI-assisted medical technologies. The award runs three years. Researchers at Tuskegee, working alongside partners from the University of North Texas, will build AI systems designed to generate responses grounded in reliable clinical evidence.

Howard-Georgetown center renews $28 million NIH award

The bigger dollar figure this week belongs to Howard University. A research team spanning Howard, Georgetown University, and MedStar Health received a renewal of a Clinical and Translational Science Award from the National Institutes of Health. That renewal brings nearly $28 million in funding to the Georgetown-Howard Universities Center for Clinical and Translational Science.

The funding runs over the next seven years. That’s a long enough runway to support serious institutional planning rather than one-off projects. The center’s work spans several areas. It trains future clinical and translational scientists, engages communities directly as research partners, and builds collaborations that push scientific discovery further into practical use. South Carolina State and Voorhees join a $10 million STEM initiative

South Carolina State University and Voorhees University are two of 11 colleges and universities participating in the South Carolina Collaborative Academic Pathways in STEM. It’s a $10 million statewide initiative funded by the National Science Foundation.

The initiative is built to strengthen research capacity and STEM workforce pathways at South Carolina’s primarily undergraduate institutions and HBCUs. Over the four-year grant period, South Carolina State will receive nearly $600,000. Voorhees will receive $305,000 for its part of the project. The work will engage high school students, transfer students, and current undergraduates to build research skills. It also targets retention, on-time graduation, and career readiness.
