The marching band is one the most recognizable and celebrated institutions across Historically Black colleges and universities. Often at the center of HBCU culture and legacy is the marching band, the college and university’s chief brand ambassador.

Since their inception in 1946, HBCU bands have sought to entertain audiences with Black musical style and cultural-aesthetic flare. But don’t get it twisted, HBCU bands are more than entertainment, but play a key role in shaping the HBCU experience.
