Guess whaat?! Spring Break is about to be in FULL EFFECT for HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) students!
The coolest event planners in the country, Six Star Enterprise, Carnival Cruise Line, and The Global HBCU Tour, are at it again with their announcement of the 2024 HBCU Cruise, from March 11th-15th. This will mark week two of the Spring Edition HBCU Cruise.
The 4-day cruise will depart from Miami to the Western Caribbean and will feature exclusive day and night events, as well as celebrity appearances.
While some people think that the cruise is an excellent opportunity for HBCU students to network and celebrate, others have taken to social media to express their reservations about it. Simply put, the announcement has social media in a tizzy!
Many online users took to socials to express their concern over the cruise amid its announcement. “I love my people, but an all-HBCU Cruise. Idk about that one,” one use wrote on X.
An October 2023 video reposted from HBCUGO.TV, is also recirculating online of a student questioning whether she should attend or if she should wait to see how this year goes before deciding if she will attend next year.
“As much as I would like to go, I just don’t think this is going to end well,” the student can be heard saying in the clip.
A few users did share positive experiences from attending previous HBCU cruises. “Had so much fun,” one user captioned under a post on Instagram in June 2022.
The commentary comes amid Miami’s controversial “break-up” with the Spring Break announcement this week.
Earlier this week, The Miami Beach Government released a commercial aimed at deterring spring-breakers from visiting. Government officials have imposed strong warnings of newly set curfews, DUI Checkpoints, and heavy police presence. They’ve also set reserved parking at 100 dollars and restricted beach access.
