Philadelphia, PA, March 22, 2024 – The Luther Vandross Foundation is thrilled to announce that its 2nd annual fundraiser will be held on May 4, 2024, at the Rivers Casino in Philadelphia, PA. The event aims to raise funds to support students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

Esteemed radio personality Patty Jackson, from WDAS-FM, iHeart Radio, will grace the occasion as the emcee, promising an evening filled with engaging entertainment and heartfelt tributes. The event will feature performances by the Nat Adderley, Jr. Quartet led by Nat Adderley, Jr., Luther’s cherished musical director; and the talented Patricia Lacy-Aiken, Sounds of Blackness vocalist and one of Luther’s former background singers.

At last year’s event, The Foundation, The Estate, and scholarship recipients crafted a bespoke crystal decanter, meticulously hand-cut and finished by a Waterford Master Craftsman at the House of Waterford in Ireland. This exquisite piece, along with other unique items, will be available to win through an online sweepstakes at this year’s event, with all proceeds directly supporting The Foundation’s initiatives.

The upcoming fundraising event not only celebrates Luther Vandross’s extraordinary musical legacy but also underscores the profound impact of education in empowering the next generation. The Foundation cordially invites the community to join this noble cause, contributing to a brighter future for many deserving students.

The Luther Vandross Foundation, established in 2020 to honor the iconic singer’s philanthropic spirit and his dedication to education, provides financial support to HBCU students, aligning with Luther’s lifelong advocacy for accessible education. Recognizing the hurdles in funding college education, Luther actively supported the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) and left generous donations to enhance educational opportunities for disadvantaged students.

Following in the philanthropic footsteps of Luther’s mother, Mary Ida, the Foundation has since awarded over $500,000 in scholarships, profoundly affecting many students’ lives and helping them to realize their academic aspirations.
