In the uprising follow the racist murder of George Floyd, the country is having several overdue conversations about supporting the Black community and Black college athletics is a trending topic. Shannon Sharpe, graduate of historically-Black Savannah State University, played professional football for the Denver Broncos and Baltimore Ravens. Following his career on the field, he became an analyst for CBS Sports, and now he co-hosts “Skip and Shannon: Undisputed with Skip Bayless.”
Sharpe talks about his young athletic dreams of playing in the big leagues and how he almost transferred to the University of Miami to help him do so. He later shares,
“No regrets. One of the greatest decisions I ever made was to go to an HBCU.”

In the past month, former NBA Guard Mo Williams accepted an offer as head coach of he basketball program an at HBCU, Alabama State University, top recruit Trace Young committed to an HBCU and star recruit Mikey Williams tweeted that he was considering Black colleges. This could be the beginning of a wave of Black athletic excellence coming from Black colleges and we are excited for college sports to shift.
