As parent company to the leading media source reporting historically black college and university news, L & Company is pleased to announce HBCU Buzz’s new sister brand, targeting the sports market. This brand will specifically highlight African American and black athletes.

From the heart of black sports everywhere, we introduce the Black Beat.

Deriving from a place of uplift and celebration, Black Beat news will be the pulse of African American and black sports, delivering news, information, highlights, and updates on all athletes including the newest, hottest, and most talented players at the professional, collegiate, amateur, and Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) levels.

The mission of Black Beat sports is to advocate for and advertise African American and black athletes around the world during game time and after the final whistle is blown.

The Black Beat Editor-In-Chief, Brandon Banks, is a graduate of Howard University and a former Basketball, Football, Baseball, Track and Field, and Soccer player.

Banks shares that the Black Beat will offer fans a chance to stay informed on their favorite athletes’ performance during the game and gain insight on professional, collegiate, high school, and Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) athletes.

“We will offer the chance for our audience to relate with the black athletes and have a deeper understanding for their personal story and motivation. Since I played varsity basketball in my hometown of New Orleans, one quote has always stuck to me – hard work beats out talents, when talents fails to work hard.”

Brown skin dominates the sports industry. Minority-owned media representation is lacking. The time for the Black Beat is now.
