SALES, SHOPPING, & SPOTTING! by the ProFashional

 SALES, SHOPPING, & SPOTTING!

I know it’s buried in the back of all of our minds, and I hate to be the one to dig it back up but summer is sadly coming to an end. The time is winding down to get any financial and living situations settled before the semester begins. As the optimist that I am, let’s focus on the perks.  There will be tons of sales, shopping and spotting! Back to school sales are right around the corner, and now is the time to start paying attention to those sale signs plastered in the retail windows!

Most of us will still be wearing our summer clothes for the first few weeks of school, but it is still necessary to stock up on a few fall necessities.  There are three things both males and females must have in their closet. I. Sweater cardigan, which can take an outfit to the next level. II. Comfy pair of shoes such as TOMS or Sperry’s for all the extra running around you will be doing to get your semester started. III. School paraphernalia, whether sweatpants or a t-shirt, show some school pride!

One of my favorite things to do on my campus, Howard University, is “yard spotting”. The yard on Howard’s campus is code for runway. It is located in the middle of the main campus, surrounded by the historic Undergraduate Library most commonly indentified by its clock towers, Alain Locke Hall, Blackburn Center, Fredrick Douglas Hall, and the department of Theater Arts. On the yard you are guaranteed to see students with style, creativity and dapper, which comes to no surprise that Howard University was recently “crowned” 2nd best dressed university in the nation by the Huffington Post.

Remember let not your wardrobe be limited to what you are used to, observe others around you. Do some “spotting” of your own whether it is on your campus, nearest city, or blogs. It is important to create your style from your personality. Don’t be afraid to think beyond the box. “There is only one you for all time. Fearlessly be yourself.” –Anthony Rapp
