Cassandra Griggs – Director of Fundraising
Griggs has been part of the TSU family since 2012, working in alumni relations and development before moving to Meharry Medical College as director of alumni engagement and special events. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Management from TSU and a master’s in Leadership and Organizational Administration from Austin Peay State University. In her new role, she will oversee fundraising efforts to deepen alumni support and strengthen donor relations.
Why This Matters for TSU and HBCUs
Leadership appointments in advancement, HR, and fundraising may not grab headlines the way athletics or campus expansions do, but they are essential to the long-term health of HBCUs. For TSU, these positions directly impact:
- Fundraising and Philanthropy: Building stronger ties with donors, alumni, and community partners.
- Human Capital: Supporting faculty and staff through modern HR policies and professional development.
- Institutional Advancement: Expanding TSU’s visibility, partnerships, and long-term growth potential.
These hires also signal to the broader HBCU community and higher education sector that Tennessee State is serious about investing in leadership capacity to meet the demands of a rapidly changing educational landscape.
Looking Forward
As President Tucker continues to shape his administration, the new leadership team is expected to play a critical role in advancing TSU’s mission. The trio of leaders reflects both tradition—through alumni connections—and innovation, with fresh approaches to resource development and human capital management.
For students, faculty, and alumni, this marks a moment of transition and opportunity. With these appointments, Tennessee State University is positioning itself not only as a leader among HBCUs but also as a model for how institutions can adapt to new challenges while staying true to their mission.
