Saint Augustine’s College #1 in Black College Division 2 Poll
By John Kamara
The defending CIAA baseball champions from Saint Augustine’s College are on fire once again as they prepare for this year’s CIAA Baseball Tournament April 21st through the 23rd at Virginia State University in Petersburg, VA. This week the Falcons from Raleigh, NC are first in the Black College Baseball Poll, eighth in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Atlantic Region poll, and the only CIAA school ranked in the region. They earned the rankings with a 32-15 overall record and a 22-4 CIAA mark, which tops the league. This has also been a good week for the Falcons’ standout shortstop Rashad Ingram from Savannah. GA. He was awarded the Black College Player of the Week for the second time this year. Ingram led the Falcons to a 3-1 record last week. He drove in five runs on six hits, including a triple and home run. Ingram also scored five runs and was 5-for-6 in stolen base attempts. Ingram is the leader in stolen bases in Division 2. This is a veteran team with seven seniors who look to repeat the CIAA Championship. Last year they won after defeating the Virginia State Trojans 6-3 in the championship game, particularly sweet after losing to them in the previous two years. Stay tuned for the CIAA Spring Sports Festival April 21–23, as all CIAA baseball participating schools will compete for the CIAA championship. Other sports will be participating in this event as well.
